How to clip your dog’s hair evenly?

  • Start by brushing the dog’s hair. This will remove any tangles and make it easier for you to work with when trimming his coat.
  • Make sure your blades are clean, sanitized, oiled and sharpened before you start clipping.  Hold up a section of fur in front of the body so you can see the natural lay of the hair.
  •  Take your clippers and cut parallel to the body, following the lay of the hair. Be very careful not to go too deep or you could end up cutting into his skin. Continue clipping all around the dog’s body, being sure to overlap each section as you go.
  • When you’re done, the coat should be even all over. Remember to cut just above the hairline on your dog’s face and paws so they don’t get too short or uneven.
  • The next step is clipping around his legs and paws. Start by holding one paw up in front of you with the leg straight out from his body.
  •  Clip around the paw, being careful not to clip into his pads.  Hold up the other leg so you can see how they match in length and then do that same thing with both of them.
  • When you’re finished clipping one paw, turn him on his side while still holding it out from his body for reference and repeat.
